Saltwater Chlorine Generators

When it comes to alternative sanitizers the most popular are chlorine generators, also called salt water systems. Chlorine generators actually create chlorine in your pool or spa without you having to measure out and handle chlorine. These generators are electrical devices that use salt added to the water to manufacture chlorine. The greatest benefit to these systems is the quality of the pool water. Swimming pools with salt systems installed are less likely to irritate and dry out your skin like conventional swimming pools that use liquid chlorine or tablets.

The major misconception with salt systems is that pools using chlorine generators are no longer using chlorine...WRONG! Remember back to chemistry 101, salt is actually the compound NaCl. What your pool is is just the Cl. The chlorine generator breaks that bond and adds the Cl in the form of chlorine gas directly into your pool water.

The major difference is that this method delivers a constant stream of chlorine which can constantly fight off all the bad stuff that chlorine is so good at killing. This includes those nasty little chloramines, they are typically the reason your skin feels dry and itchy when you get out of the pool. They are also the culprit behind that nasty "chlorine like" smell.
