One of the most common problems we run in to when it comes to replacement motors is improper wiring of the motor. A common sign of this is if the motor runs slowly and then trips the breaker and shuts off. If you are experiencing this the motor is most likely incorrectly wired.

The best way to avoid this issue is to carefully read the motor name plate regarding the connections. Many motors can be hooked up to either 115 or 230 volts. These motors will be marked “115/230.” These types of motors are shipped from the factory prewired for 230 volts. This is done because if they came prewired for 115 and are inadvertently connected to 220 volts the motor will burn up immediately and be instantly destroyed. A motor prewired for 230 volts that has 115 volts applied will run slow and trip out. If the wires moved on the connection board are not placed on the proper terminals, the result will be a slow running motor that overheats and trips out. These motors have automatic overload protection, which means the motor will not run again until the motor cools down.

So if you do run into a problem with a motor purchased from us please double check the connection to insure you have the motor properly wired for the incoming voltage. We only carry brand new motors. These motors have been tested at the factory, the chances of a bad motor out of the box are extremely rare.
